One-time Charge (Add-on Fee)

3 min read Updated Jul 24, 2026

Overview#

The One-time Charge feature allows you to apply a flat additional fee to an option value without multiplying that charge by the main product quantity.

With the latest update, One-time Charge now works seamlessly alongside Quantity for Option Value, giving you complete flexibility to charge per add-on item while keeping it independent of the main product's purchase quantity.

How It Works#

By default, any extra charge assigned to an option value multiplies by the quantity of the main product selected in the cart. Enabling One-time Charge overrides this behavior.

Feature / Setting Add Charge Calculation Formula Example Scenario ($10 Add Charge, Main Product Qty: 5)
Standard Add Charge Add Charge Amount × Option Value Qty × Main Product Qty $10 × 1 × 5 = $50
One-time Charge (Single Selection) Add Charge Amount × 1 (Flat Fee) $10 × 1 = $10 (independent of main product qty)
One-time Charge + Quantity for Option Value Add Charge Amount × Option Value Qty If customer selects 3 add-on units: $10 × 3 = $30 (independent of main product qty)

Key Benefits of One-time Charge + Quantity for Option Value#

  1. Independent Add-on Quantities: Customers can select multiple units of an add-on (e.g., 3 gift bags or 2 greeting cards) without having the cost multiplied by bulk main product quantities (e.g., 50 t-shirts).
  2. Fixed Setup & Customization Fees: Ideal for one-off service fees such as logo engraving setup, embroidery digitization, or rush processing fees.
  3. Flexible Pricing Rules: Control minimum and maximum quantity limits per option value while maintaining one-time fee logic per order.

Supported Option Types#

One-time Charge is available across single and multi-selection option types, including:

  • Color Swatch & Image Swatch
  • Radio Button & Checkboxes
  • Dropdown Menu, Color Dropdown & Image Dropdown
  • Button & Combo Box

Real-World Use Cases

  • Gift Wrapping / Cards: Buying 10 shirts for a team, but only requesting 2 Gift Boxes ($5 each) → Total Add Charge = $10 (instead of $5 × 2 × 10 = $100).
  • Logo Digitization Fee: Buying 100 custom polo shirts with a $25 One-time Digitization Fee → Total Add Charge = $25.
  • Personalized Engraving Fee: Fixed fee of $15 for custom text, regardless of how many items are in the order.
