Average order value is one of the three levers of revenue growth — along with traffic and conversion rate. Bundles are the most direct way to increase it without acquiring new customers or redesigning your funnel.

Strategy 1: The "Complete the Look" Bundle

Present a main product alongside 2–3 complementary items at a small combined discount. The goal isn't deep discounting — it's making the add-ons feel like a natural completion of the purchase. Works particularly well in apparel, home goods, and skincare.

Strategy 2: Volume Tiers

Show a clear price break at quantity thresholds — buy 1 at full price, buy 3 at 10% off, buy 6 at 18% off. The tiered structure creates visible incentive to increase quantity. The specific thresholds should match your margin structure, not a generic template.
Info
Set your first volume tier at a quantity that 15–20% of your current orders already reach naturally. This captures existing behavior before asking customers to stretch.

Strategy 3: The "Build Your Own" Bundle

Let customers curate their own bundle from a defined set of products. This works best when there's a natural selection exercise involved — choosing a flavor variety pack, a kit of tools, or a sample-and-staple combination.

Strategy 4: Subscription + One-Time

Pair a subscription item with a one-time product at a discount. The subscription anchors repeat revenue; the one-time item increases the first order value and reduces perceived price of committing to the subscription.

Strategy 5: Post-Purchase Bundle Upsell

Present a bundle offer on the post-purchase confirmation page. At this stage, the customer has already converted — friction is lower and the offer can be more aggressive without risking the original sale.
  • Always show the per-unit or combined savings clearly
  • Avoid bundles with more than 4–5 items — choice overload works against you
  • Test bundle placement: product page vs. cart vs. post-purchase
  • Make the discount feel earned, not desperate
